2019 FLU CLINIC DATES

Saturday, October 12th

9:00am-noon

Saturday, October 26th

9:00am-noon

Please call the office or see the Front Desk to schedule a time for your child to get his/her flu shot.

You must be on our schedule to get a flu shot during these clinic times.

Thank You!

9/4/2019

Our flu shots have started to arrive in small quantities, so we will start giving them out during scheduled doctor and nurse appointments. Flu shots are not given out during walk-in.

We don’t currently have enough inventory to schedule flu clinics.

We understand that our schedule is filling up quickly, and that the “after-school” times fill up first. This is why we will host flu clinics this year on Saturdays to help accommodate our patients as soon as we have enough vaccines on hand.

Please be understanding when you call that you might not get the exact date and time that you want.

Thank you!

Attention Medicaid Recipients!

Medicaid is changing. There are new Medicaid insurance health plans coming to North Carolina and you will soon need to pick a Medicaid insurance health plan so that you or your child can continue to be cared for by our staff.

You should have received a letter and additional information from North Carolina Medicaid’s Enrollment Broker in June. This letter should have notified you of the need to choose a Medicaid insurance health plan and primary care physician (PCP) or one will be chosen for you.

Our practice is serving the following Medicaid insurance health plans:
* WellCare
* AmeriHealth Caritas
* United HealthCare Community Plans
* Blue Cross Blue Shield Healthy Blue
* Carolina Complete Health

After choosing a Medicaid insurance health plan, you will then choose a primary care practice (PCP). If you want to continue to see Chapel Hill Children & Adolescents’ Clinic, make sure to select us as your PCP.

Remember if you do not choose a Medicaid insurance health plan or a PCP, one will be selected for you.

Be on the lookout for your letter and enrollment packet from North Carolina’s Enrollment if you have not yet received one. If you have questions after you receive this information, please call the Enrollment Broker at the number listed on the packet or visit: ncmedicaidplans.gov

Policy for medication renewals

Patients must have a yearly physical and wellness exam performed in order to have refills of prescription medications. This is to assess response to medication and whether medications are still required. With some medications, such as ADHD stimulant treatment, antidepressants, or asthma medications in a patient with poor control, more frequent monitoring may be required. (Please note: previous examples not intended to be exhaustive list.)

In the event that a patient has not had a yearly wellness exam, we request that the patient schedule a well visit before a one-time 1 month refill is given to tide the patient over until the scheduled visit. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter as we work together to provide the best possible care for you or your child.

Which conditions are best for evaluation at  for our walk-in clinics?

Illnesses or injuries present for a few days, such as:

Sore throats

Cough

Nasal congestion

Ear pain

Vomiting and diarrhea

Fever

Rashes

Recent injuries

Skin infections

Symptoms that have been going on for  weeks, months or even years, particularly conditions such as headaches, stomach aches, fatigue, depression, anxiety or weight loss are best addressed with a scheduled consult appointment, as they deserve a more thorough assessment than can be provided during walk-in due to limited time. We also cannot do physicals or complete school forms during walk-in clinic. Please see the front desk to schedule this or if you have questions. If unclear, we can ask a nurse or doctor how to best approach your concerns.

Our Vaccine Philosophy

Our practice believes that all children should receive the recommended vaccines according to the guidelines provided by the AAP and the CDC. Vaccines are safe and effective in preventing diseases and health complications in children and young adults. Regular vaccinations help children ward off infections, and are administered as one of the safest and best methods of disease prevention.

As of January 1, 2019, we can no longer accept any new patients to our practice from families who choose to not vaccinate their children.  We will discuss any alternate schedule desired but ask that parents of un/undervaccinated children accept that this choice poses an increased risk not only to their own children but others who have vaccine contraindication or are not old enough to be vaccinated. Although we advise following the routine schedule to prevent any vaccine errors, all NEW patients will need to follow the following guidelines:

–The first set of vaccinations must be started by the 4-month well-care visit

–All of the recommended vaccines that are given from birth-age 2 years must be completed by the child’s 3-year old well-care visit.

The only exceptions to the above guidelines will be given to children who are already current patients in our office prior to January 1, 2019.

Of course, any children who have any special medical concerns that require adjustments to the vaccination schedule will continue to be given vaccines according to the most up-to-date recommendations available.

Inclement Weather Policy

During inclement weather, we will follow the Chapel Hill- Carrboro School System’s delays. Any time the Chapel Hill- Carrboro School System is operating under a delay or closing, we will be operating at reduced hours unless otherwise stated in our phone message. Please call our office before any appointments during inclement weather to be sure we are open. Thank you!

Our office offers fluoride dental varnish to all patients starting at the first tooth eruption, until the age of at least 3 years.  This is done at well-visits, unless otherwise requested.  Although most insurance plans cover this service, there may be an additional charge to you if you plan does not cover it.
