Important Information Regarding FluMist

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), a panel of immunization experts that advises CDC, voted that live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV), also known as the “nasal spray” flu vaccine, should not be used during the 2016-2017 flu season. ACUP continues to recommend annual flu vaccination, with either the inactivated flu vaccine (IIV) or recombinant influenza vaccine (RIV), for everyone 6 months and older. (Announcement from the North Carolina Immunization Registry, posted 7/1/2016).

As a result of the above recommendation, Chapel Hill Children’s Clinic will not have the FluMist vaccine available during the upcoming flu vaccination season.
